AAMC Leadership Programs
Since 2002, The Dean’s office has sponsored woman faculty to attend the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC) Early Career and Mid-Career Professional Development Conference. Women faculty are encouraged to seek department support as well to attend these very valuable conferences.

ELAM Program
The Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program prepares senior women faculty at schools of medicine and dentistry to move into positions of institutional leadership where they can effect change. Established in 1995, ELAM offers an intensive program of executive training, with extensive coaching, networking and mentoring opportunities, aimed at expanding the national pool of qualified women candidates for leadership in academic medicine and dentistry.
The OHSU School of Medicine Dean has provided institutional support (time and financial) to women faculty accepted in to this program. The application process for the ELAM Program begins in late November and applications are usually due by the end of January. The announcement of a new class of approximately 45 Fellows is usually made in April.
Prior OHSU graduates are:
1996 Joanna Cain, MD (OB/GYN)
1998 Phyllis Beemsterboer, MS, EdD (School of Dentistry)
2002 Amanda Clark, MD (OB/GYN)
2004 Sharon Anderson, MD (Medicine/Nephrology)

OHSU School of Medicine Faculty Development Series
The SOM Office of Faculty Development & Faculty Affairs holds New Faculty Orientation. This Conference was originally developed, organized and implemented by the Women in Academic Medicine Committee to provide academic survival skills for new faculty.
OHSU SOM Career Seminar Series
This series is devoted to seminars and workshops on career development and leadership for the academic physician in areas that are of particular importance for female and junior faculty. Topics in this series include time management, negotiation, communication, presentation skills, balancing work and family, and promotion at OHSU. An interactive format provides opportunities for SOM faculty to gain exposure to a broad range of professional development topics taught by a multidisciplinary group of experts.
