Promoting Leadership Opportunities for Women at OHSU |
|
It has been well documented nationally that, relative to their male colleagues in academic medicine, women are over-represented in the junior ranks and are under-represented in senior ranks and senior leadership positions. Data from the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) indicates that the proportion of men and women across academic ranks has not changed substantially in over fifteen years. Since 1996, in order to increase awareness of this gender discrepancy, the AAMC has annually compiled and reported benchmark statistics regarding women in academic medicine from U.S. medical schools.

Since 2000, the Women in Academic Medicine (WAM) Committee has collected information in order to depict the status of women faculty at OHSU compared with national benchmarks published by the AAMC. Through the publication of the annual OHSU Representation of Women Report, the WAM Committee hopes to educate others about the representation of women within the institution. This report will continue to determine trends, enhance current initiatives and help guide us in developing new strategies for helping women advance in their careers.
