Urogynecology or "Pelvic Floor" Doctors

The OHSU Pelvic Floor Health & Reconstructive Surgery Service provides therapeutic options for women with conditions such as uterine and vaginal prolapse, as well as urinary and fecal incontinence.

Our team of urogynecologists are trained ob/gyn specialists who have completed years of fellowship training in evaluating and treating problems with the urinary, bowel and vaginal/sexual functions of the pelvis. We provide the latest range of options for incontinence and prolapse including some available only through our clinical research program.

What Is the Pelvic Floor?

The pelvic floor consists of the vagina, bladder, rectum, and the surrounding muscles and ligaments that provide support. Loss of support may lead to loss of bladder and bowel control, difficulty emptying the bowels, and downward bulging of the reproductive organs. Every day activities – exercise, shopping, travel and intimate relations – are often disrupted.

Our team was formed in order to share our expertise and provide the best possible care for your condition. We recognize that complex pelvic floor disorders often require input from many health care professionals. As such, we work closely with physical therapists, colorectal surgeons, gastroenterologists, neurologists, radiologists and women’s health counselors to coordinate your care.

Leading Edge Equipment and Approaches

OHSU offers minimally invasive approaches including the latest da Vinci robotic surgery equipment. For example, da Vinci Sacrocolpopexy offers numerous potential benefits over a traditional open approach. Learn more about uterine conditions and new options for robotic surgery at daVincisurgery.com.

Research and Education

Our team participates actively in research to learn more about the prevention and treatment of pelvic floor disorders. Active areas of research include estrogen’s role in connective tissue support, neuromuscular damage with childbirth, and clinical trials of new treatment options. Through our fellowship and residency training programs, we hope to ensure that the health professionals of tomorrow will be skilled and able to provide the best possible care for women.
